WREC Students Investigate Rainbow Trout
Posted on 03/26/2024
Mrs. Kline and Mrs. Kupiszewski have been collaborating with the BCCD (Berks County Conservation District) for the past few months to bring rainbow trout to their fifth-grade classrooms. After coming back from winter break, the students have enjoyed watching the life cycle of the fish inside their classrooms, which allowed them to experience an entirely different perspective of learning.
This hands-on opportunity taught the students to observe the life cycle of these fish and carry out testing for pH levels, nitrates and nitrites, as well as ammonia to ensure that the trout are thriving in their environment. To celebrate our students' hard work and preparation, they will release the trout into our local creek in the next few weeks. This has been a wonderful opportunity and engaging experience for our WREC students, and we appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with a fantastic community partner!
