October 16, 2020 - Message from Dr. Babb

10/16/2020

Hello WREC Parents,

I hope this message finds you and your family happy and healthy.  I continue to be impressed with the manner in which the entire WREC Family has handled our current learning environment.  I look forward to the time in which ALL WREC students are back in the building, every school day, together.  In the meantime, I appreciate the way we continue to work together for the benefit of our kids.  You'll be receiving a communication later today from our Superintendent, Mr. Scoboria, updating you on COVID 19 pandemic-related issues.

During my meetings this week with both our fifth and sixth-grade teams, it was evident that while the majority of our students are doing relatively well, we do have some students that are struggling in the current learning environment.  Generally, students who have low academic grades at this point in the first quarter are failing to submit assignments that are posted in Schoology.  Many of those same struggling students also fail to regularly attend online sessions with their teachers on Webex.  My suggestion to parents of struggling students is to pay particular attention to those two things when their student is at home and encourage their students to submit assignments and attend their online sessions.  We actively monitor both school attendance and submission of assignments and communicate to students (and parents) when we see those things lacking.  Teachers are still accepting past due assignments.  Our overarching goal is for students to complete/submit all academic assignments and be active participants in their WEBEX sessions.

If you have not established a Powerschool account to help you monitor your student's grades and attendance, I'd encourage you to do so.  I sent out a parent letter earlier in the year with directions, usernames, and passwords for establishing Powerschool accounts.  If you would like me to send you that information again, please reply to this email and let me know.  I'll be happy to send you another copy.  I've received a lot of positive feedback from parents regarding both Powerschool and the Powerschool app.

Please feel free to reply with any questions or concerns.  If I'm not able to answer your question myself, I will put you in contact with a WREC staff member who is better able to do that.
