This Veterans Day, West Reading Elementary Center honored veterans with a celebration feast at their third annual Veterans Day Breakfast. Together students, staff, and local veterans enjoyed an exciting morning full of activity.
The celebration began with moving tributes to the veterans. These included a beautiful rendition of the national anthem performed by high school students; a thoughtful student-created poem read aloud; and a performance from the West Reading Elementary Center Choir.
The celebration continued in the library, where students and their guests of honor enjoyed a plentiful breakfast spread. Cheerful chatter filled the room as students and veterans ate and shared experiences. As the plates were cleared and the coffee was finished, students invited the veterans to their classrooms.
The veterans shared moving experiences and photographs and answered students’ questions.
“Each year we cannot wait to welcome the veterans in our community,” math and technology specialist Mrs. Shana Matz said at the beginning of the morning. “This event teaches our students to value the courage and commitment shown by these brave men and women. This is a big day for students and their heroes.”
The District would like to thank Mrs. Matz and the entire West Reading Elementary Center staff for their dedication to making this event a success.
