April 9, 2020

Dear WREC Family,

I hope everyone in your household is continuing to stay healthy and making the best of this “socially distant” time we find ourselves in these days.  We are finishing up our second week of distance learning together and I continue to be pleased with the overall response from our students and parents.  We will continue to help you work through any technical/logistical issues with the ultimate goal of every school day having all WREC students engaged in learning and actively working with their teachers.

With that in mind, I want to share that we are beginning to enable Webex as an additional platform for communication between your student and teachers.  Webex is a secure enterprise solution for video conferencing and online meetings.  The Webex app will be automatically installed on a student’s school iPad the next time it is online and checks in with our management systems.   The installation may not happen immediately and may take longer depending upon the battery strength of the device and internet bandwidth.  Student specific instructions, class meeting times, etc. will eventually be shared by classroom teachers, so that students are well prepared ahead of time to engage with their teachers on that platform.  This process will take a little time to work out all the individual details, so I ask for everyone’s patience again as we work through it together.  For those students choosing to use a personal device rather than a school-issued iPad, we will be providing instructions for using Webex on the district website at the following URL:  https://www.wyoarea.org/departments/information_technology/virtual_learning_-_webex.

If you want to request that your student have access to his/her student iPad because your devices at home are not integrating well with our instructional resources, please email me at [email protected] and request to pick up your student’s iPad.  I have generally been scheduling pickups to coincide with the handing out of school lunches at WREC.  I will get back to you with a specific time/date for that to happen.

I hope that all of you are able to enjoy this very unusual Spring Break.  Just a reminder that tomorrow (Thursday, 4/9) and Friday, 4/10 are Spring Break days.  The expectation is that those are days off for students and teachers.   We will begin a full week of distance learning again Monday, April 13th.
